What is ISO?


ISO 9001 is the primary certification of the International Organization for Standardization.  The ISO 9001 quality management systems (QMS) standards are not specific to products or services and are generic in nature so that they can be used by manufacturing and service industries worldwide. 

ISO 9001 is a quality management standard that applies to all types of organizations regardless of size, location or type of business.  It can help both product and service organizations achieve standards of quality that are recognized throughout the world.  ISO 9001 specifies the basic requirements for a quality management system that organizations must fulfill to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide products or services that enhance Customer satisfaction and meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.  The ISO standards are not specific to a product or service but apply to the processes that create them.

There are seven sections of the ISO 9001 standard that specify activities needed to ultimately ensure a compliant system; These are Context on the organization, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operation, Performance evaluation and Improvement. The ISO 9001 standard provides organizations with proven tools to help manage themselves in the most efficient and effective ways.  ISO increases Customer satisfaction, therefore leading to higher rates of Customer retention, increased profitable revenue and enhanced market exposure.
